Coaching the new generation of Service Managers in the art of performance....
According to the Pygmalion Effect, the expectations of those around us can potentially determine how well we perform. The basic principle is that when we surround ourselves only with people who remind us of our past, we can often get stuck in historically defined roles making further progression hard. Conversely, by surrounding ourselves with people we feel have certain qualities worthy of adoption we are somehow no longer defined by our past and free to create our authentic futures.
A more balanced approach to the processes surrounding performance is to actively advance those people with demonstrated abilities, (often to be found in the historically defined roles), and develop their future skills required to fully understand what drives a team, learning to authentically engage, question, support and challenge. Becoming naturally wired to recognise and leverage change, empowering others to generate a greater sense of purpose, and fostering a culture of excellence to drive advocacy (and revenue).
Often these are not skills we are born with, coaching new managers to both understand, and reach, their true potential holds huge value to the business.
